"Open Sesame" is the seventh episode of Season 1, airing November 2, 2000. For the first time since the premiere, no Tribal Council is held. A reward challenge sends the winning tribe on a feast at a local Fijian village, while the other two tribes are left to stew — and scheme — back at camp. Tensions within Tribe Vanua reach a boiling point as the showmance between Colton Briggs and Priya Nair begins to fracture alliances.

Story

With no immunity on the line, the episode opens with all three tribes waking to a sealed wooden box at the center of each camp — each containing a clue to a hidden advantage somewhere on their beach. The title "Open Sesame" refers to the frantic searching that follows, as castaways tear apart their camps trying to crack the clues first.

Kwame Asante of Tribe Yasawa is the only castaway to successfully locate his tribe's advantage — a Steal-a-Vote token, usable at any future Tribal Council to steal another player's vote. He quietly pockets it without telling his tribe.

Meanwhile, on Vanua's beach, a heated argument erupts after Denise Fuentes confronts Colton about whether his loyalty lies with Priya or with the tribe. Colton deflects but the damage is done — Denise and Marcus begin talking privately about a potential blindside should Vanua lose again.

Hidden Advantage: Kwame Asante (Yasawa) finds a Steal-a-Vote token on Day 14. Its existence is not revealed to the tribe.

Reward Challenge — "Keys to the Kingdom"

Reward Challenge · Day 14
Keys to the Kingdom
One castaway at a time races through a obstacle course, collecting numbered keys along the way. At the end of the course they must try each key on a padlocked chest — only one key opens it. If they fail, the next tribe member goes. The first tribe to open all three of their chests wins a feast at a local Fijian village, complete with traditional food, music, and a night away from camp.

Trivia

  • "Open Sesame" is only the second episode this season with no Tribal Council, after the premiere.
  • The sealed wooden boxes placed at each camp are a production twist — no castaway was warned in advance, and the clues inside were written in a cipher based on the Fijian language.
  • Kwame Asante's Steal-a-Vote is the first hidden advantage found by a castaway this season. He does not tell any tribemate about it.
  • Tribe Yasawa wins their first reward of the season, having previously only competed in immunity challenges.
  • The confrontation between Denise Fuentes and Colton Briggs is the most-aired confessional sequence of the season so far, taking up approximately twelve minutes of screen time.
  • Tribe Kadavu's three remaining members — Lorraine, Nadine, and Tammy — are shown bonding closely during the episode, with producers noting this as a deliberate survival strategy ahead of a potential tribe shake-up.
